ILEAD - Online Exercise and Game Developer, University of Toronto (2012)

The Institute of Leadership Education in Engineering (ILead) at the University of Toronto has the vision to empower the engineer by teaching the softer leadership and teamwork skills required in one's career through various workshops, seminars, certificate programs, and research. I worked under the supervision of PhD candidate Patricia Sheridan to develop online exercises and games that would effectively increase students' motivation to learn teamwork and leadership skills. This involved background research into the theory of gamification in order to know what aspects about games keep the player motivated and interested.

The highlights of the work done are shown below. A poster developed for UnERD and the final report of the research are also shown below.
  • Designed online games on various platforms to increase students’ motivation to learn teamwork skills resulting in an improvement in their effectiveness as measured against a set of communication, relational, and organisational aspects.
  • Incorporated learning aspects into commonly known games and developed learning objectives to measure the success of the games to motivate and engage students; tested the effectiveness of the games in a focus group to obtain feedback for improvement
  • Researched topics in gamification, adult learning, and game development while evaluating various online game development platforms
